Tokamak Energy appoints Anita Breslin as new CFO

Tokamak Energy has appointed Anita Breslin as Chief Financial Officer at a pivotal time of commercialisation for the global fusion energy and high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet company.

Anita has 25 years’ experience in the energy business, in both commercial and financial senior leadership roles, and was most recently CFO at AIM-listed AMTE Power.

Her last 15 years have been focused on formulating and delivering the growth strategy for companies including Vattenfall and BG Group plc, who she joined from PwC.

During her tenure, Anita was involved in several major investment activities including a multi-billion-dollar LNG offtake contract. She also played a significant role in the integration of BG Group and Shell following a merger in 2016.

Having left oil and gas in 2016, Anita has been focused on renewable and alternative energies including hydro and sodium ion batteries.

Warrick Matthews, Tokamak Energy CEO, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Anita to Tokamak Energy to lead our finance team and support our mission to make commercial fusion a reality. Anita will add great strength and experience to our leadership team and play a key role in delivering our growth strategy as we enter an exciting new phase of commercialisation across both the fusion and HTS magnet markets.”

Anita Breslin, CFO, added: “I’m excited to join Tokamak Energy at this pivotal stage of its technology commercialisation, and continued development towards realising clean fusion energy at scale. I’m looking forward to working with the talented and committed team to deliver the energy of the future.”

In June 2024, Tokamak Energy signed an agreement with the Department of Energy (DOE) as part of the United States’ bold decadal vision for delivering commercial fusion. The DOE’s milestone-based fusion development program was established to support private companies in bringing fusion toward technical and commercial viability.

Selected companies are now teaming with national laboratories, universities, and others to address major technical and commercialisation milestones for the successful design of a fusion pilot plant.

Tokamak Energy, founded in 2009 as a spin-off from UK Atomic Energy Authority, will demonstrate net power from its pilot plant in the mid-2030s, paving the way for globally deployable clean and secure fusion energy.

Tokamak Energy is also recognised as a world leader in HTS magnets, which represent a significant technological breakthrough by enabling powerful and efficient magnetic fields for a wide range of applications that can drive scientific discoveries, improve medical diagnostics, and contribute to advancements in the defence industry.
